Aspects modified for fashion event

- Fashion Event for charity

The concept and purpose of the previous fashion presentation was a major issue and has been revamped into a fashion charity event. Needless to say, education plays an important role in the community. Unfortunately, many children in Kuala Lumpur have no access to education and balanced meals due to poverty. According to a report published by UNICEF, children associate with poverty are as high as 99%, facing malnutrition and lack of education opportunity (UNICEF, 2018). Therefore, the fashion presentation event could act as a platform for participants or public to do a good deed by offering a help to the children in need.

50% of the ticket sales will be donated to Dignity for Children Foundation who provides holistic health care and education for urban poor children in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Dignityforchildren.org, n.d.). Other than that, the event provides an opportunity for the public to experience a fashion presentation which is a rare sight in Malaysia and also introduce fast-growing local fashion brands to the public. Besides, it allows fashion students to connect with people in the industry as well.

- Presentation outlook

As seen in the attached presentation slide, the outlook and layout was changed to look presentable by incorporating more visuals to let the audience have a better understanding towards the event concept. Important details such as introductory of fashion designers, charity organization, themes and set up ideas with visuals were being included which were overlooked at first.

- Budget

Event budget plan was undervalued initially and revised to be more realistic. With a budget plan of RM12,300, it was brought up to RM41,000 to achieve a successful, professional outcome. Models stand the biggest amount of RM12,000 as there are 3 designers and roughly 5 models for each designer.

- Solution for questions pointed out

The question pointed out by Darren was an expected question as it came across during discussion. After acknowledging the problem, a solution was found which is by having an individual platform for a designer. With this, designers wouldn’t have to comprehend or sacrifice any aspects of  their own brand image with other designers and compromise into a single shared theme. Each platform will be designed by our team members to suit each designer. As seen in the amended presentation slides, the platform can be decorated into a photo shoot set up. For instance, Motoguo’s set up could be a classroom, Kittie Yiyi’s set up is a picnic and Man Chien’s platform could be a painter’s workshop. Suitable props will be sourced to make each platform stand out and was listed down into the presentation slides as well.

As mentioned in the presentation slides, models will not be standing in a static posture like a traditional fashion presentation. To enhance the mood of the event, models will be more interactive while presenting the collection. The ideas is to have models utilizing the decorated platform, posing or interacting with the props. Besides, some models would be walking around the venue from time to time and guests are able to experience how the clothing would flow on the model’s body while walking.

The aspect of involving students from fashion design and fashion business together to carry out different roles which benefits individually was overlooked. To ensure equal balance of task distributions, fashion design students could utilize their sewing skills and creativity skills in designing the set up or theme of each designer’s platform. Besides, fashion design students are also able to work on ways in creating editorial looks for the models by designing head wear, deciding makeup ideas or sourcing for unique accessories to elevate the looks. Furthermore, fashion business students could focus on promoting the event, sourcing for suitable location, designers, preparing press kits for media and overall, manage the fashion event.

In conclusion, different elements needed for organizing a fashion event was acknowledged, learned and revised through this task. The fashion event concept has been revised to suit each student’s learning outcome and also serves as a good platform for the public to contribute to the community and also experience a fresh and different approach towards the fashion industry in Malaysia.

Thank You,
