Concept Board

(Wong, 2019)

A product shoot was organized by the lecturer as majority of the students needed more work to build up a good portfolio before entering the industry. After coming up with 3 photoshoot concepts before this, the marketing team have finally finalize on the concept as seen above. The product that the team will be shooting is jewelries. Since students were required to create a total of 5 photos in total, the jewelry in each photo will be a different type of metal/ composition

Products:

Look 1: Pearl Look 2: Gold

Look 3: Silver

Look 4: Beads

Look 5: Gems

Concept:

The main story of the jewelry's product shoot is to have a model's hand coming out from a circular hole with hands decorated with accessories reaching out for more jewelries on the prop. The colour combination of the wall was planned to be bright and fun. Each photo have a main focus product while the rest acts as a filler for the photo or as a prop to go with the main product. The team have implemented certain twist onto certain props like spray a matte black paint onto a banana and getting Campbell cans with special label on it. Besides, instead of using the widely used cotton candy, pop corn, macaroons, and mashmallows, the team have decided to use a local dessert called "kuih lapis" which have a pink and green colour stripes pattern on it.

To prepare all props and materials needed for this product shoot. Each member have been delegated with different tasks to be efficient and equal at the same time. Majority of the props seen in the photo were DIY-ed by the team members. For example, Campbell cans with such labelling is limited edition and cannot be found in Malaysia. Hence, the author tried searching online for templates and thankfully, there is. Hence, the team was quite happy about it as the colours of the can's labelling matches the colour combination of the product shoot. Other than that, all "walls" from this photoshoot were build by scratch by using cardboard and Manila paper. The banana was manually spray painted with matte black spray paint.

As seen below is the behind the scenes photos and preparation photos for this product shoot.

Reflection:

After looking at the finalized photo, the author realized that if the pearl product shoot with oysters as a prop using colourful walls migh be better as it will looks unify. At this moment, the pearl product shoot tends to let the viewer feel classy and expensive while the other product shoots are young, fun and quirky.

Before ending this post, the author wish to thank the lecturer for giving the students an opportunity to build up a better portfolio.

Thank you,

Renee Wong
